Vaginal bleeding is considered abnormal
if it occurs outside the normal menstrual cycle, during pregnancy,
or after menopause. Although there is often a simple explanation,
you should always see your doctor if you have any abnormal
vaginal bleeding. If you are pregnant & you are bleeding,
you should consult your doctor or nurse / midwife at once.
WARNING:
Bleeding in Pregnancy - If you have any vaginal
bleeding during pregnancy, you should contact your doctor
or nurse / midwife urgently. Although most causes of bleeding
are not serious, it is important to rule out MISCARRIAGE or
a problem such as a low-lying placenta or partial separation
of the placenta from the wall of the uterus.
Hormonal Contraceptives
- In the first few menstrual cycles after either starting
hormonal contraception or changing to a different type of
contraceptive pill, spotting is fairly common. If abnormal
bleeding persists or develops when there have previously been
no problems, you should consult your doctor. He or she may
examine you and change the dosage or type of hormonal contraceptive
that has been prescribed.
