INTRODUCTION
 

Basti is the third but the most important treatment among the five detoxifying – cleansing therapies broadly known as panchakarma or shodhana therapies. It helps in clearing the lower part of the GI tract & is the best remedial solution for vata dosha.

 
PROCEDURE
 

Before the application of Anuvasana (Sneha) Basti, a simple light massage is carried out on the stomach & the back followed by a light fomentation either by nadisweda or by a towel dipped in hot water. Then the specially prepared sneha basti oil / medicine is introduced through the anus of the patient with the help of lubricated rubber flatus tube attached to basti yantra. This is absolutely painless procedure. The medicine introduced is retained by the body for longer time it may not be excreted till next day.

 
DIET
 

Before


Sneha Basti has to be carried out on full stomach. The patient should have eaten something just prior to the treatment


After


There are no specific dietary restrictions after the sneha basti as this is given on full stomach
He is advised not to consume heavy food during the course
