How I Helped My Daughter Who Had Her Periods At The Age Of 8

My once warm and friendly daughter began showing signs of irritability, mood swings, and general listlessness at the age of 8. The once upon outdoor-loving girl who would run and jump around, now stayed indoors and declined meeting her friends.

Her behavior disturbed me. I didn’t know what was causing her to be this way. Then one day she came to me crying saying that there were blood spots in her underwear. This was something I was not expecting at all, at least not for another 3 years.

I had never heard of a girl starting her menstruation at such a young age. My mind whirled at the thought of my precious little girl being disturbed by it. Truth be told, I was as unprepared as her about having periods so early.

I failed to understand how she could have got it so early. I had had my first period at the average age of 12. Even so, I gathered my thoughts, and soothed her first. Then I sat her down next to me, and explained as simply as I could about menstruation.

Over the tough days for her, I guided her on the use of sanitary pads, and hygiene. It was as frightening for me as it was for her. No parent expects their daughter to begin periods so early as you think you have time till she turns 11 or 12 to make her aware about menstruation. Also, it isn’t very easy for a girl of 7 or 8 to actually grasp and understand the complete meaning of the menstrual process.

The initial few months were a physically and emotionally traumatizing time as she experienced cramps, and pain. I took her to a gynecologist who prescribed painkillers for her physical discomfort. However, this resolved only her physical problem.

She was emotionally distressed by it. She stopped going out to play as she was afraid of getting her clothes stained. It happened once that her school uniform got stained and her classmates questioned her. She was too embarrassed to give them an answer and came home extremely upset that day. She felt ashamed of having periods as none of her friends had it. She felt alone and separated from the rest of her friends which caused her to withdraw from social activities, and even games in school or at the public garden.

I reached out to family and friends to see if they could help us. Several of them either didn’t know about it or didn’t want to talk about it. I was surprised that a natural phenomenon like menstruation was considered a taboo topic even among close ones.

A friend of mine with whom I was discussing all this, told me that menstruation at such a young age wasn’t uncommon. She then asked me if I knew about M2-Tone EM tablets. I told her that I had never heard of it before. She said that it was a natural supplement that was safe to be consumed by girls experiencing early menarche. Since it is a non-hormonal herbal formulated tablet, it wouldn’t affect my daughter’s hormones in any way. All it would do was decrease menstrual pain, relieve cramps, improve mood, and lower anxiety levels of my daughter.

I was hesitant at first to try it but I couldn’t bear seeing my daughter struggling through it. I consulted our family doctor before administering it to my daughter. I am relieved to say that the tablet worked well. It helped my daughter relax from the pain and discomfort of periods. She gradually regained her spirit, and active form so much so that she no longer feels embarrassed to join in games with her friends. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my chest – seeing my daughter her own self again is extremely wonderful.

If you have a daughter going through the same, remember to help her understand what is going on. It is vital that you answer all her doubts and queries regarding it, or else she may get wrong information from elsewhere. Be there for her at all times.

I was there by my daughter’s side the entire time when she was dealing with menarche. I helped her through every stage and helped her understand that menstruation was not something to be ashamed or embarrassed about. I told her it was a natural process that every girl experiences. I spoke to as many people as I could so that I could help her more. I’m glad I did – because if I didn’t, I wouldn’t have gained insight from my helpful friend, and wouldn’t have known about the M2-Tone EM tablets that was instrumental in bringing back my daughter to me.
