Novel Concept Of Agni In Ayurveda

Ayurveda, the indigenous medical system of India, has explained the concept of health and disease. It considers the human body as an indivisible whole with a network of interrelated functions, mind and consciousness, wherein a disturbance in one part will have repercussions in other parts as well. Ayurvedic line of treatment aims not only at removal of root cause of disease, but also at the restoration of the equilibrium of bodily functions.

The concept of Agni (digestive fire) is Ayurveda’s major contribution to healthcare. Agni represents solar energy in the living beings. Maintenance of physiological actions in a state is dependent on the normal state of agni while the abnormal state of agni contributes to pathological changes and absence of agni results in death of the living being. Therefore, maintenance of human life itself is dependent on agni. It contributes to the lustre and complexion of the skin, energy, strength and growth of the body. Ultimately, it is the agni that determines which substances enter our cells and tissues, and which substances should be removed as waste. In this way, agni is the gatekeeper of life. In fact, according to Ayurveda, when the agni is extinguished, death soon follows.

OJUS –

Is a complete digestive aid developed by Charak Pharma. It improves Agni i.e. digestive fire and thus, it helps to boost digestion through its effect on secretion of digestive enzymes, motility of GI tract.

Haritaki and Shunthi in OJUS, act as powerful appetizers and stimulants of digestive enzymes. Pippali helps to protect stomach mucosa from gastric acid. Bilva and Karanj have been shown to be gastroprotective.

APTIZOOOM –

It is a blend of appetizers and digestives. APTIZOOOM has stimulatory effect on the secretions of GI tract, liver and pancreas. APTIZOOOM stimulates appetite and promotes digestion by stimulation of liver to secrete more bile enriched in bile acids and by stimulation of enzyme activities of both pancreatic and intestinal origin

Thus, OJUS and APTIZOOOM act as a complete digestive aid by virtue of gastroprotective, enzyme stimulator and mucoprotective actions.
